STRUCTURED LITERACY INSTRUCTION

Spellbound Education offers customized lessons to address diverse learner types, including students diagnosed with Dyslexia,  ADHD,  and other Specific Learning Disabilities. Modalities include:

• The Orton-Gillingham Approach
• Structured Word Inquiry
• 1:1 Lessons with Direct Instruction
• Multi-sensory activities

Students are led through engaging lessons based on their ability level, and personal interests, by an Orton-Gillingham- Certified Level, Special Education Teacher.

The OG Approach was conceived almost 100 years ago by Dr. Samuel Orton and Anna Gillingham, amongst many other enlightened colleagues. This group was the precursor to the International Dyslexia Association.  

It is called an "approach" and is distinct from programs and methods as it is not scripted but meant to reflect the children's specific learning needs. 

The main principles are as follows:

• Diagnostic and Prescriptive 
• Individualized
• Language-Based and Alphabetic/Phonetic
• Simultaneous Multisensory
• Direct and Explicit 
• Structured, Sequential, and Cumulative, but Flexible
• Synthetic and Analytic
• Cognitive
• Emotionally Sound
